Drake’s Hurdlers Shine on Final Day Of The Kansas Relays

first_img Complete Results (HTML) Complete Results (PDF) Story Linkscenter_img LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Drake University track and field team’s hurdlers turned in a strong showing in Saturday evening at the Kansas Relays. Bas Van Leersum (Zaandam, The Netherlands) was the top collegiate finisher in the men’s 400-meter hurdles with a time of 53.20, his second fastest race of the season. Van Leersum finished third overall behind only professional runners Michael Stigler and Drake assistant coach LaRon Bennett.For the women’s team, Mary Young (Urbandale, Iowa) ran her fastest 100-meter hurdle race of the season to finish second while teammate Destani Welch (Des Moines, Iowa) was sixth in 13.99.Virginia Hill (Haymarket, Va.) took fourth in the women’s 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:01.66.The bulk of the Bulldog team competed at Iowa’s Musco Twilight on Saturday and the squad will rejoin forces next week for the 107th Drake Relays presented by Hy-Vee.Print Friendly Versionlast_img read more
