InSETE reports 7 per cent drop in air seats to Greece

first_img Facebook Twitter: @NeosKosmos Instagram Airlines are planning to offer less seats on flights to Greece in 2019, according to data gathered up until 31 January.A report by the Institute of the Greek Tourism Confederation (InSETE) points to a 7 per cent reduction in seat planning, with flights from Germany showing an even greater contraction with a 16 per cent planned reduction in seats. The drop is considered normal bearing in mind the high growth rate over recent years, with 2018 alone showing a 21 per cent increase in seat planning after years of hikes.Other reasons for the drop in the demand for air seats in summer 2019 could include the stagnation in the eurozone economy, failure to complete the Brexit deal, bankruptcy by German carrier Germania that had scheduled 381,000 seats to Greece. Furthermore, Turkey’s competitive prices are also diverting tourists from Greece to the neighbouring country.last_img read more
