Jamaican Blake steers Lady Budapest to eight-length win in KMTC’s feature

first_imgJAMAICAN jockey Brian Blake rode a well-timed race to steer Lady Budapest to a commanding eight-length victory in the feature event of the Kennard’s Memorial Turf Club’s (KMTC) Phagwah Horse Race Meet which was staged last Sunday at the club’s facility, Bush Lot Farm, Corentyne, Berbice.Contesting the feature `D’ and Lower one-mile event that carried a first place cash prize of $900 000 and a trophy, compliments of Demerara Distillers Limited, Lady Budapest trailed the field of nine others in the early stage of the race, but as the field straightened up for home, Blake urged Lady Budapest on and surged to the front nearing the finish line and never relinquished that lead, winning with eight lengths in hand ahead of Goodwill Boy of the Jagdeo Stable.Easy Flow of the Nand Persaud Stable finished third and Keep On Swinging of the Jumbo Jet Stable ended fourth.Randolph Richmond, riding aboard Jumbo Jet Stable’s Release the Beast, demolished the field in the `E’ and Lower non-winners for 2016 and 2017 and `F’ and Lower animals.Dark Sky, Got To Go and Climate Change occupied the other top three places respectively.The `H 1’ and Lower event was declared a dead heat for the first position between T&T of the Nand Persaud Stable and Isn’t She Charming of the Jumbo Jet Stable. Cat Messiah, It’s My Turn and Firing Line occupied the other top places in that order.The `I 3 and Three-Year-Old Guyana-bred race was won by Seven Dust, ridden by Colin Ross. Party Time, Mary Ann and Puppy Tail Wagging occupied the other top places respectively.Mischievous Maker of the Shariff Stable, with Trinidadian Nicholas Patrick on board, won the Guyana-bred maiden race from Miss Anjalie, Saria and King Stanley respectively.The `J 3’ event saw Red Jet with Prem Chandra in the saddle blaze to victory with Miss Olympic finishing second. Third was Plane Land and Red Region placed fourth.Slim Shady won the `L’ class open race ahead of Royal Son Confusion and Secret Thinkers respectively.The `L’ class non-winners event was won by Flow Joe and was piloted by Kevin Paul.Lil Dude, East Lion and Royal Blaze ended second, third and fourth respectively.The Nand Persaud stable won the Champion Stable award, while Mohendra Persaud was adjudged Champion Trainer and Prem Chandra the Top Jockey with Randolph Richmond as the runner-up.last_img
