TIDY TOWNS HOMECOMING TOLD ‘WE DON’T HAVE SAM BUT WE HAVE OUR ALL-IRELAND’

first_imgAnn McGowan and some of her Tidy Towns team are welcomed home to Letterkenny by the Mayor of Leterkenny, Cllr Gerry Mc McMonagle.‘We may not have taken home the Sam Maguire but we have our All-Ireland.’Those were the words of chairman of Donegal County Council, Cllr Ciaran Brogan tonight as he welcomed home the members of Letterkenny’s Tidy Towns Committee.Ann McGowan and her team arrived home to a tremendous reception having helped Letterkenny to be crowned Ireland’s Tidiest Town at a reception in Dublin this morning.But rather than bask in the glory, Ann’s first words as she stood at Market Square were “The work begins tomorrow on retaining our title.” More than 200 people turned up to welcome home the team which has done Letterkenny and the whole of Donegal proud.Some of the crowd which gather at Market Square in Letterkenny tonight for the homecoming.The one person missing from tonight’s celebrations was the late Jim McCormick, whom Mayor Brogan said would undoubtedly be looking down but also urging his tam to strive on again next year to retain the title.Mayor of Letterkenny, Cllr Gerry Mc Monagle paid tribute to all volunteers across Letterkenny who played their part in any way in taking the title home.Donegal County Manager Seamus Neely said it was a great day for Letterkenny but for many towns across Donegal who had done so well in the tidy towns competition.
